Like a made-for-TV movie, young Rex read in a magazine that his favorite band (Whitesnake) was looking for a new guitarist. So he promptly made a demo cassette of himself playing the guitar, which generated immediate interest from the A&R department at Atlantic Records. He didn’t get the Whitesnake gig, but was able to release his debut album Fierce Heart on the Atlantic/Mirage label. Next, he started a rock group called Whitecross which has done very well in the Christian music industry going on 40 years now with tours, albums, and a worldwide following. From about 1997, he went back to his first love - the blues and classic rock - and formed a power trio performing all over the midwestern United States. That first incarnation of The Rex Carroll Band released an album “That Was Then, This Is Now” that continues to sell well, now into its third pressing. The highlight gig of that era was probably the Harley Davidson 100th anniversary celebration in Milwaukee in front of 4,000 friends and fans.
